Get Involved! Burns District Releases its Final Decision for Steens Mountain Travel Management Plan
December 5, 2007 - The BLM Burns District Environment Assessment includes a Travel Management Plan (TMP), which further defines the motor vehicle route and trail network within the Steens Mountain Cooperative Management and Protection Area (CMPA). All motorized travel off the specified routes network will be prohibited. BLM will not conduct an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) because they have deemed that enacting this decision will not significantly impact the quality of the human environment. This decision does not add additional Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). Existing routes, as specified in the Resource Management Plan (RMP), will remain open to the public for motorized use, including 555 miles of Base Routes. All ATV Routes (8 miles) will be reclassified as ATV trails.
It is important that OHV enthusiast remain involved throughout the Travel Management process. Voice your comments and concerns at the Steens Mountain Resource Advisory Council meeting on December 6-7, 2007. The meeting will take place from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on both days, with time for public comment scheduled. The TMP within the CMPA will be on the agenda. The meeting will be held at the BLM Burns District Office, 28910 Highway 20 West, Hines, OR.
